Partner Interview with Matty Bites!

Hellooo, Unvale community!
We have a very special blog post for you all that's the first of its kind on Unvale!
We had the absolute pleasure of getting to chat with Matty Bites, YouTuber, reviewer, and creative (along with being one of our awesome partners).
But enough of me yapping! Ready to see what they had to share? Keep reading!
Can you share a bit about who you are and what you do?
My name is Matty and I make videos about Webcomics I come across! I also draw my own comics in my free time!
What got you into creating art and/or OCs?
Spite. As weird as that sounds I was from a small school and was "the best" artist in my class. So when I had nothing challenging myself to grow and learn I actually stopped drawing and started writing. Then when I went to High School I realized I had a lot to learn. When I met my best buddy, they were SO TALENTED (still are) and before I realized it, I was angrily trying to become a better artist than them (still am). As I was drawing and drawing and drawing, I started to fall in love with creation and I couldn't stop. While Spite initially sparked me to want to be the best in my school, it helped rekindle my passion for art and as I've grown, I've come to realize that I love art. I love it so much. It has helped me be the person I am today. It has helped me meet so many INCREDIBLY TALENTED people. It has brought me closer to those I want to surround myself with. While spite initially pushed me, my love for art fuels me.
What are things and/or people that inspire your creativity today?
I think one of the biggest things that inspires me is the human touch that has been added into any piece of art you come across. My experiences, my challenges, my emotions are what makes my art uniquely mine. So when I see other artists putting themselves into their craft I can't help but get excited. Each choice a person makes when creating is inspired by hundreds of thousands of hours of trial and error. It's truly beautiful to witness such amazing artworks created by so many different people.
What's your favorite piece that you've uploaded on to Unvale?

She's a character I have for a comic I am currently scripting out. I often don't have time to do a lot of fun random art, so this is one of my current favorites. It was fun getting to try new poses and make the background match the rest of her. I still have a lot to learn, but this is my favorite I've posted to Unvale.
You're a Webtoons reviewer! Out of all the series you've read, what's a series that you wish you could read all over again?
Oh gosh that's a tough one. If I could choose any Webtoon to read and experience all over again, I think it would probably have to be "My In-laws Are Obsessed With Me".

While I do love other comics, I always find myself thinking back to that one. The more I think about it, the more I feel the artist of the story has really done an outstanding job of bringing the entire story together. The thing I specifically like is how they frame their panels. Often with Webtoons there is so so much filler that takes you out of a story when there is clearly supposed to be an intense moment happening. The artist seems to have the opposite approach as there will be nothing on screen but what you need to focus on. I think it's what really keeps me thinking about the moments characters have together long after I've read certain chapters. We sit on emotions. We the reader have no other choice but to see exactly what the artist wants us to see, and that is such an important talent to have when you're drawing a comic. I respect the artist of that comic so much, not only have they done amazing work, but they seem to really understand how to use the webtoon format to their benefit.
What would you say are some core elements for making a great Webtoon?
Focus on the story first. While having good art is a plus, it won't really matter if there's only surface level beauty to look at. I'd also play into your strengths as much as possible! You don't have to be perfect or good at everything, just try your best!
To wrap it up, what are some words you'd like to share with other creatives out there?
You really can do anything you set your mind to. Go for it. Throw away any inhibitions you have and do what makes you happy.
And that ends the interview!
Thank you again to Matty Bites for being such an amazing guest and thank YOU for taking the time to read!
